Anthony Mackie and Chris Evans spent five years making Marvel movies together as Sam Wilson/Falcon and Steve Rogers/Captain America. Their characters were close friends, with Steve bestowing the Captain America shield to Sam at the end of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.

Chris Evans is denying the reports claiming that he’ll appear in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. Evans has played Captain America/Steve Rogers in a number of MCU projects. His final outing as the character was seemingly in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame;

Evans returned to the MCU briefly in Deadpool and Wolverine, but as Johnny Storm, AKA the Human Torch. He hasn't played Captain America since giving up his shield in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson took over, embracing the mantle in 2021's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

“That’s not true, though,” Evans said when asked about the rumours. “This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years—ever since Endgame. I’ve just stopped responding to it. Yeah, no—happily retired!”

Chris Evans has responded to the recent report that he's returning for Avengers: Doomsday, either as Steve Rogers/ Captain America or another character. An article from Deadline in December "confirmed" that the actor had signed on for Marvel's next big team-up film, due out next year.

Marvel's former Captain America is the latest Avenger to deny any further return to the franchise, seemingly an obligatory claim at this point.
