There's a chance for Minnesotans to view the northern lights early Wednesday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a geomagnetic storm watch for the morning due to the arrival of multiple coronal mass ejections that left the sun on Sunday. Wednesday morning's storm is rated a G3, or strong level.

To see the northern lights, NOAA recommends getting to an unobstructed, north-facing vantage point away from city lights. The best time to see the aurora is between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time, which is when geomagnetic activity can be highest.

The Northern Lights, otherwise known as Aurora Borealis, will be visible across multiple states in the U.S. on April 15 and 16, 2025. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has an "Aurora dashboard" that provides maps showing where the Northern Lights may be visible.
