Johni Broome and Tyrese Hunter had huge games Tuesday to put their teams into Wednesday's Maui Invitational championship

Though it looked like their upset bid was going to come up short after some heroics from Solo Ball at the end of regulation, Tyrese Hunter and Memphis picked up a huge win to kick off the Maui Invitational on Monday morning.

MAUI, Hawaii — Memphis basketball upset No. 2 UConn, the two-time defending national champion, 99-97 in overtime Monday at the Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center.

Memphis’ guard tandem of Tyrese Hunter and PJ Haggerty combined for 39 points and Memphis beat Michigan State 71-63 on Tuesday to advance to the Maui Invitational title game.

The UConn men's basketball team is tied with the Memphis Tigers at halftime at the Maui Invitational, as the Huskies' bench contributed.
