Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita has advised IMPD and IPS to “discontinue policies and practices that limit their ability to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, or else face legal action from his office.

Rokita said if Indianapolis Public Schools officials refuse to share information with ICE related to an individuals immigration status he will take sue.

In response to recent comments made by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Indianapolis Public Schools surrounding cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita said the two entities “must cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

Criminal gang members who are in the United States illegally have in some cases enrolled in public schools,” Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita said in a letter to the district.

Rokita expressed concerns over IMPD's statement that it does not have the authority to enforce federal immigration laws and IPS's policy of requiring a judicial warrant for ICE access.
