On Aug. 18, the Texas Department of Public Safety released a new design for Texas driver's licenses and identification cards.

Texans will be issued a new state driver's license and identification card with increased security features, according to a Monday announcement by the Department of Public Safety. "The way driver licenses are made can make a big difference in terms of public safety," said Sheri Gipson, driver license division chief at DPS, in the news release.

All licenses issued in Texas from August 18 will be of the new design, while existing licenses will remain valid until their expiration date.
