Discount hunters searching for Black Friday deals have officially kicked off the holiday shopping season. Consumers are forecasted to break spending records in 2024, with the average person expected to spend a little over $1,000, up 14% from last year, according to data from RetailMeNot.

COLUMBIA — Online shopping has made it easier for people to find deals and savings on Black Friday from the comfort and warmth of their own home. But plenty of people across Mid-Missouri, from Moberly to Bowling Green, went out to Columbia Mall for Black Friday and carried on the in-store shopping tradition.

One day in particular is the ultimate day for shoppers to get the best deals for Christmas presents. The day of deals, Black Friday, a time when many people get their wallets out to find the best gifts possible at the lowest price.

The manager of “Request” shoe store Terrell Davis said this isn't his first Black Friday at the mall, and this year, he has noticed a difference in foot traffic at the Galleria, but says his store hasn't been affected that much, leading up to the big day.

Despite retailers offering holiday discounts earlier than usual this year, US consumers did more shopping on Black Friday than the days leading up to it.
