SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks could legitimately say that they deserved to win their first two games, as they held leads late in the third period against both the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks last week before they found a way to lose both games in overtime.
Leo Carlsson scored 46 seconds into overtime and the Anaheim Ducks overcame a two-goal, third-period deficit to for a 7-6 win over the San Jose Sharks.
SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks made several moves in the offseason to try to address their most glaring issues, which included a repeated inability to protect third-period leads. Two games into the 2025-26 season, the heartache the Sharks have felt in that area has only gotten worse.
Jeff Skinner’s goal with 14:26 left in regulation time gave the Sharks a 6-4 lead at the 5:34 mark of the third period. But San Jose continued to play loose, carefree hockey, and allowed three unanswered goals for their second straight heartbreaking loss.
Carlsson went down the left wing and fired a wrist shot over the blocker of Yaroslav Askarov to win it after Chris Kreider ’s second goal of the game tied it 6-6 with 51 seconds remaining in the third period. Kreider scored on a tap-in from the left post after Carlsson's shot rebounded off Askarov's pad right to him.
