In the wake of this morning's wintry and wet mess, warmer air is overspreading the region. The result will be areas of patchy dense fog. There could be some cold air trapped in low-lying valleys and that would lead to icy patches developing. Otherwise, partly cloudy and coolish weather awaits us for the remainder of the overnight.

As for the current storm, 1 to 2 inches of snow is forecast to fall in many areas of North Jersey before temperatures start warming up and the snow changes to a mix of sleet and freezing rain prior to sunrise Thursday. As temperatures continue to get warmer, forecasters say, the icy mix will change to plain rain.
