Saudi Arabia and India agreed to boost cooperation in supplies of crude and liquefied petroleum gas, according to a joint statement reported by the Saudi state news agency on Wednesday following a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jeddah today for a two-day state visit, marking the first time an Indian PM has visited the city in over 40 years. The visit is in response to an invitation from Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

As the first Indian prime minister in over four decades to visit Jeddah, the commercial capital of Saudi Arabia and the gateway to Islam's holiest sites, Modi's visit goes far beyond symbolic gestures.
