A former minor league baseball player and father drowned after getting caught in a rip current while trying to save a family in the water in South Carolina, according to police and a fundraiser for his family.
South Carolina lost 19 players to the transfer portal, eight ran out of eligibility and three — Ethan Petry, Nathan Hall and senior Matthew Becker — were drafted in the recent MLB Draft. Position players who decided to transfer include starters in designated hitter Jase Woita (Missouri) and shortstop Henry Kaczmar (Ohio State).

Alshon Jeffery (2009-11): Jeffery finished his career as South Carolina’s all-time leader in receiving yards and now sits as No. 2 in the program record book with 3,042 yards. He holds the record for receiving yards in a season (1,517). Jeffery was an All-American and All-SEC wide receiver who had his No. 1 jersey retired in 2023.
