The controversy over Keller’s school leadership — and a proposal to split the district in two — will drag on. The school board discussed but did not vote on a voluntary separation agreement with Superintendent Tracy Johnson during a marathon Thursday night meeting.

The Keller ISD Board of Trustees could soon be looking for a new superintendent amid the controversy surrounding a proposal to split the district in two. On the agenda for its Thursday night board meeting is possible action on a "voluntary separation agreement" with the superintendent.

Parents and Keller ISD residents blamed a board that they believe to be overexerting its power for the superintendent turnover. As a majority of trustees push to pursue a district split, most residents who spoke at the Jan. 30 meeting were opposed to the potential proposal.

Keller ISD has a new interim leader, Cory Wilson. Wilson served as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, one of five assistant superintendent roles in the district.

Former Superintendent Tracy Johnson did not attend Thursday’s meeting, having already cleared her office out earlier in the week.

The Keller ISD school board tried to explain to a crowd full of parents and community members why it feels it needs to split in two. But it seems like it wasn't enough to convince the majority of people in attendance.

While some see the split as a budget solution, hundreds of residents are demanding more information — and an election.

Lakisha Constante was one of the few parents of color to show up at the meeting, felt the reason for the split was related to class and race. She and her family live in the Villages of Woodland Springs, west of Denton Highway, where she has two children in Keller ISD and one who has graduated.

One agenda item for Thursday’s meeting said the board could act on a voluntary separation agreement with Superintendent Tracy Johnson. It is followed by another item about appointing an interim superintendent.
