Brighton have confirmed the signing of Inter Miami midfielder Diego Gómez for a reported £11m ($14m). The 21-year-old Paraguayan, who has 12 international caps, will join the Seagulls on January 1, when the transfer window opens, having completed the MLS season with Miami.

The transfer fee ranks among the biggest outbound transfers in MLS history. The current record is Alfonso Davies’ $22 million transfer from Vancouver Whitecaps to Bayern Munich. Atlanta United sold Thiago Almada to Brazilian club Botafogo for a reported $20 million this season.
