The fate of an Osceola County sheriff’s deputy accused of igniting a gasoline fire with a stun gun that severely burned a man he was trying to arrest will soon rest with the jury Friday after a weeklong trial in which he testified the incident was an accident.

Closing arguments began Friday in the trial for Osceola County Deputy David Crawford, who is accused of Tasing a man at a gas station in 2022 and causing a fiery explosion that left the man with severe burns.

In addition to arguing the discharge was accidental, the defense has suggested that either Koffinas’ discharge or the hot engine of Barreto’s dirt bike may have ignited the gasoline. Koffinas was not criminally charged and received a 40-hour suspension after an internal investigation.
