Just weeks before the deadly crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 in Ahmedabad, the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had warned of potential fuel control problems in several Boeing aircraft models, including the 787 Dreamliner.

The initial investigation by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) found that the aircraft’s fuel control switches, critical for regulating fuel flow to the engines, had unexpectedly moved to the “CUTOFF” position shortly after take-off, causing both engines to shut down.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has said the fuel control switches in Boeing aeroplanes are safe, following their reported involvement in a fatal Air India crash that killed 260 people in June.
