Texas has been the epicenter of Trump’s push to gerrymander congressional maps to shore up Republicans’ narrow House majority before next year.

As Texas Republicans move ahead with redistricting to protect or even expand the GOP’s slim majority in the US House, Democratic-run states, led by California, are pushing forward with their own efforts to draw new maps and add Democratic seats.

“We are running from nothing,” said Texas state Rep. Ann Johnson, one of a group of state Democrats who fled Texas to deny Republicans quorum. “We see the danger that is coming and we are running straight for it.”
