The Butte Creek fire, burning 30 miles northwest of Madras, also started Friday, this one on the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation. It has grown to 2,000 acres and is 5% contained, according to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center. No homes have been burned.

Fire crews are starting to get the upper hand on a wildfire in Central Oregon that exploded in size, fueled by dry conditions and hot temperatures. The Cram Fire has grown to be the largest of nearly 100 active fires in the United States.

The Cram Fire, burning northeast of Madras, grew more contained throughout Sunday, seemingly hindering the fire before reaching megafire status.
