Take your time. And talk to the syaff and other visitors. There is so much to enjoy even omitting the garden, so expect to wish you had a full hour.

The major art galleries may be a better option if you have limited time available. E travelled by tube rather than bus and it was a good 15/20 minutes walk from the nearest tube. Have you considered Birmingham City Art Gallery? One hour twenty minutes by train from central London, and trains every 20/30 minutes during daytime. This gallery has the most important collection of Pre Raphaelite art worldwide. 3000 items, although only a small proportion on show at any one time. Check out their website. Enjoy the trip!
